
Omirtai Bitimov
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan
Mr. Omirtai Bitimov was appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on June 2011.
Until his current appointment, he was Ambassador-at-large and Special Envoy on Afghanistan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2010-2011).
Ambassador Bitimov has also served on a number of other posts since entering the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1992): Second Secretary of Consulate Division (1992 - 1993), Second Secretary and Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Turkey (1993-1994), Chief of Near and Middle East, North Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1994), Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Turkey (1994-1995), Second Secretary of General Consulate of the USSR and Russian Federation (1989-1992), Attaché and Third Secretary of the Embassy of the USSR in Afghanistan, Kabul.
Born on 4 February 1951, in Semei, Kazakhstan, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Physics and Mathematics studies from Semipalatinsk Pedagogical Institute, Kazakhstan (1975). He continued his study in Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR (1984-1986).
Ambassador studied in George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, Germany (2004).
He is the author of numerous articles on Kazakhstan security issues. He speaks Kazakh, Russian, Persian, Turkish, and is the recipient of several Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, former Soviet Union Government Awards.
Omirtay Bitimov is married with three children and seven grandchildren.
